Mathematics Curriculum
The mathematics department at Orange Crescent School strives to cultivate strong problem solving skills in our students. The curriculum is designed to align with both California State Standards at each grade level as well as the acclaimed National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) Standards. Text-book instruction is augmented with various hands-on activities and long-term projects. The highlight of the mathematics program is a schoolwide Mathematics Awareness Week held each spring. Students come together to participate in various activities relating mathematics to the world around them in creative ways. Middle School students are enrolled in Pre-Algebra in the seventh grade, and Algebra I by eighth grade. Many of our eighth grade students are able to achieve passing scores on the rigorous Algebra Exam administered by local public and private high schools, and enroll in Geometry as high school freshmen. Our seventh and eighth grade students have been very successful in academic competitions in which they have received county medals.
