Quran Curriculum

The Qur'an is considered the eternal miracle of Islam. It is the complete and best guide for living one's life and seeking Allah's pleasure. The teachings of the Qur'an are universal, addressed to all people throughout the world regardless of their creed and color. They enlighten man's soul, purify his morals, condemn all wrongs, order good deeds and call for the establishment of justice and fraternity through obeying Allah as the supreme authority. Qur'anic Studies at OCS consists of three parts:

  1. Reading: Students are taught to read Arabic text of the Holy Qur'an while applying the "Rules of Recitation (Tajweed)" by use of the rules of pause, alteration of the letter, thin sound vs. broad sound, and nasalization.
  2. Memorization: Students memorize selected surahs from the Holy Qur'an. The surahs are explained and commented on.
  3. Depth in Translation: Students gain an in-depth understanding of the meaning of Surahs they are studying. They also relate the Qur'an to their lives by analyzing stories in the Qur'an, historical incidents, and moral lessons to be learned.
