Preschool
Children are natural learners. They need only the right environment and the proper equipment to learn. At Orange Crescent Montessori Preschool, we are proud to offer them this service. It is our belief that early childhood should be a time for fun, warmth, security, exploration, and discovery. Preschool children are creative and receptive, and our programs strive to nurture and encourage these qualities in our children. The Islamic values that are acquired at this tender age will remain with these children throughout their lives, InshaAllah.
Curriculum
Planned within the framework of philosophy and purpose, the curriculum includes sharing and conversation time (stories, songs, and finger plays), creative art activities, exposure to shapes, colors, numbers, and letters. Children learn through their experiences in the areas of everyday living, sensorial education, language development, math, and the cultural areas of history, geography, music, and art. They are also taught basic Islamic knowledge and manners through stories, memorization of surahs and small prayers, Islamic songs, and celebration of Islamic holidays.
Montessori Education
We use the Montessori method and materials in our program adapted to our Islamic needs. This makes for a unique cycle of learning designed to take advantage of the child’s sensitive years between three and six where he/she can absorb information from an enriched environment. A child who acquires the basic skills of reading and math in the natural way without boredom or discouragement can gain an early enthusiasm for learning. Our classrooms use the child’s natural need for movement to guarantee balanced physical, intellectual, social, and emotional development. Children are free to move about the room at will, to talk quietly with other children, to work with the materials, and to develop positive self-esteem.
Program
We have two separate programs available based on age and ability levels: Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten. Children aged three and four by December 31 are eligible to enroll in each of these programs, respectively. Enrollment is accepted throughout the year depending on availability. Hours for all programs are 8:00 am to 3:00 pm for full day, and 8:00 am to 12:00 noon for the half day program. We offer our parents a choice for five days (Monday through Friday), three days (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday), or two days (Tuesday and Thursday) per week. Our program starts in the first week of September, and ends in the third week of June.
