5A - Bilkis Simjee
Assalamu Alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuhu
Welcome to the new school year!
I hope you are enjoying the summer holidays. It is exciting to have your child in my class and I am looking forward to an enjoyable and a prosperous year.
In fifth grade, students are in a transitory academic level and will be gradually prepared for Middle School. They will be introduced to a new school subject called Life Skills. The goal of Life Skills is to help students develop character traits that will, hopefully, serve them for the rest of their lives. To make time for Life Skills lessons, students will begin class ten minutes earlier than in previous years; thus, students will start class at 7:50 A. M. instead of 8:00 A.M.
My goals are many; Above all, in English, I would like my students to demonstrate a positive attitude towards reading, utilize a variety of strategies in comprehension, and work diligently throughout the writing process. In Social Studies, I would like my students to connect the past to the future. Another aim is to prepare students for the future via the use of computers. Furthermore, I intend to transmit good values to my students that will build upon their strong Islamic character.
English-Language Arts is divided into four essential components: reading, writing, speaking, and listening. All four sections are important and intertwine with each other. Competency in language skills presents a foundation for communication and when all four sections are strengthened, one is able to express him/herself clearly. Throughout the year I intend to reinforce and build upon language skills.
I am looking forward to working with your child to help him/her achieve at his/her full potential. I hope the coming year will be both enjoyable and prosperous for you and your child.
Thank you for your trust and confidence.
Wassalam
Sincerely,
Sister Bilkis Simjee (Fifth Grade)
